I've made a small detail of my stool in Xanita board this week, and here are my results

Mock up refinement

This week I have make some changes to my existing stool
design. Here are the working progression and my testing
to the changes.

Turns out, my design now is much more stronger! :)

This week I've tested my idea in a 1:1 scale.


First I've made it in a 1:5 scale, and testing it
using my weight, and it feels rigid and strong,
therefore i believe the 1:1 model will be strong
enough too.



After making the 1:1 model, and getting to sit
on it, i can feel that the top is a little weak,
perhaps its because the top is too big for the
bottom, or its the angle of the folds, but I'll try
adjusting the size of the top to see what happen next.

Task 3: Refined concepts

For this week, I have refined the 2 concepts from before, trying to work out a better way to hold the chair together. I really like how concept 3 has now became, however i still need to work out what exact angle it needs to be in order to design for the best quality.

Concept 3 still uses the folding idea but it is now in 1 piece instead of 2 which will fit in the Xanita X board.

Papton chair-class exercise

We had to work out how the papton chair folds together just by looking at the image. It was a little difficult working out the angle, but we managed to work it out.

Folding is a big part of packaging design and i think this packaging design is just amazing!

After making the mini models i decided i wanted to go further with concept 2 and 3 for next week. I really like the idea in concept 3 where its all about the folding and the cardboard come together in a very unique way. So i think i'll keep making models and test ideas towards that.

For concept 2, the idea itself creates a very solid seat except i believe it will need more support to emphasize on the strength of the chair.

Event Research for Design Made Trade Melbourne

Pen Plan Paris

o This is an exhibition that was built in 2006 for about a week in November in Melbourne.

o Pen Plan Paris by March Studios is a collaborative project in association with ArtPlay and support from the city of Melbourne

o It is a full-scale cardboard model of a Parisian apartment that had invited 350 children from Melbourne to imagine what Paris is like. The children were invited to draw out what they think is Paris and Melbourne vise versa

The idea behind this exhibition is to:

- International scale in Melbourne and Paris, it raised international awareness which lead to features in magazines and Journals such as Architecture Australia and Frame magazine.

- And because this activity is so different and perhaps outrageous it caught people’s attention – not just of designers but the public-family members.

Esquisses 4

On tuesday class, we were asked be groups of two or three to design and create a 1:1 cardboard furniture. Me, Alex and Brodie came up with a design that utilize both mine and Alex's esquisses 3 locking mechanism. Below are images of documentation of the design process.

we were trying to create the furniture in 1 piece of cardboard

ta da.....its our chair design..........at the end we altered the design a little by puting in the slotting triangulation mechanism i did for esquisses 3 inside that hollow space u see here to support the structure of the chair.

Then yesterday we met up and finish this piece of furniture in 1:1 scale.

After that we try to put the chair together and make the base structure inside the chair



this is the base i was talking about before, it is the main structure that holds up the chair, and allowing it to support a person's weight.


at the end, we made the chair after all the hard work! :)
YAY its solid and can hold up a person's weight!
